Metastable States of Warm Dense Hydrogen

Аннотация

Warm dense hydrogen is investigated by the ab initio molecular dynamics method near the fluid–fluid phase transition. The metastable states are calculated along isotherms of 700 and 1000 K. The obtained pressure ranges of metastable states are 0.47 and 0.32 Mbar, respectively. Their existence indicates that this transition is a first-order phase transition.

High-Temperature Investigations of Ytterbium Manganite YbMnO3

Аннотация

Samples of mechanically activated ytterbium manganite with a hexagonal crystal structure have been investigated for the first time by the methods of high-temperature X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis in the temperature range from room temperature to 1200°С. Structural transitions have been revealed from the space group P63сm into P63/mmс in the temperature range of 1100–1180°С. Structural analysis of the two modifications of the ytterbium manganite—high-temperature, with the space group P63/mmс, and low-temperature, with the space group P63сm,—has been performed. The specific features of the oxidation–reduction processes in the initial and mechanoactivated samples of the ytterbium manganite have been studied. The data obtained made it possible to refine the limits of the stability of the low-temperature modification, which possesses ferroelectric properties.

3D Filtering of Images Corrupted by Mixed Additive-Impulsive Noise

A procedure for filtering images corrupted by mixed (additive-impulsive) noise has been substantiated and implemented for the first time. The novel method is characterized by the following stages: the detection and filtering of pixels corrupted by noise impulses, the image filtering in three-dimensional (3D) discrete cosine transform (DCT) space, and the final image processing stage in which the errors of the previous stages are corrected and the image edges and details are reconstructed. A physical interpretation of the filtering procedure under mixed noise conditions is given, and a filtering block diagram has been developed. Simulations of the proposed image filtering method have confirmed the advantage of the novel filtering scheme in terms of generally recognized criteria: the structural similarity index measure and the peak signal-to-noise ratio as well as when visually comparing the filtered images.

Guaranteeing Anticipating Control in Shock Isolation Problem

New formulations of the optimal shock isolation problem for an object on a movable base are proposed. These formulations take into account the uncertainty of information about the shock (impact) pulse applied to the base and allow anticipating control for the shock isolator. A guaranteeing control law that minimizes the maximum of the absolute value of the displacement of the object relative to the base for the worst disturbance is sought. For a class of external disturbances that reflects a number of typical features of impact pulses, the optimal control laws and optimal anticipation times are found.

Method for Determining Friction Forces in Experiments on Shock Compression and Construction of Dynamic Stress–Strain Diagrams of Metals and Alloys

As a result of numerical and experimental investigation of the influence of friction forces on the dynamic strain of elastoviscoplastic samples (pellets), the main regularities of their formation have been established for metals and alloys. A new method of identification of the dry friction coefficients (according to Coulomb) on each contact surface depending on the formings of the lateral surface of the pellets is proposed; it is based on the numerical simulation of the axisymmetric dynamic problem and the rapidly convergent method of successive approximations. As a result, dynamic stress–strain diagrams are built taking into account the friction forces and radial inertia.

Note on the Nature of Spontaneously Radiating Shock Waves

In this paper, the viewpoint is expressed that the structure of a spontaneously radiating shock waves is a waveguide along which perturbations propagate. As usually, the perturbation velocity can be determined by the dispersion equation obtained from the relations for shocks. The perturbation velocity along the waveguide generally does not coincide with the above perturbation velocity and the envelope velocity does not coincide with the phase velocity of the waves.

Time-Optimal Rotation of a Body by Displacement of a Mass Point

The problem of time-optimal rotation of a rigid body in the two-dimensional case by the use of mass forming a closed system with the body has been considered. For the general case, two scalar equations for two unknowns have been obtained. When the finite position of the mass is not specified, the problem is reduced to solving a single scalar equation the root of which always exists and is unique for any boundary conditions on a known segment. The relations for the optimal control, the trajectory of the mass motion, and the Bellman function are expressed in terms of elliptic integrals. The same formulas can also be used in the case when only the distance between the mass and the coordinate origin is specified at a finite instant of time.

Stability of the Bernoulli–Euler Beam in Coupled Electric and Thermal Fields

The problem of stable equilibrium of a Bernoulli–Euler beam with both ends fixed positioned in an electrostatic field under the action of a pulse laser is considered. The initial equilibrium position under the action of the electrostatic field has been obtained. It has been shown that there exist either two equilibrium positions of this kind—stable and unstable ones—or none in a sufficiently strong electric field. The temperature field in the beam under the action of a laser pulse has been found. The possibility to lose the stability of equilibrium under heating of the element by a laser pulse is suggested for the first time. Regions corresponding to the stability of the aforesaid equilibrium position in the space of pulse parameters have been determined.

Possibility of Cavitation Bubble Supercompression in Tetradecane

We investigate the possibility of medium supercompression in a cavitation bubble during its collapse in tetradecane and make a comparison with its realization in a collapsing bubble in acetone. We show that tetradecane is a more favorable medium than acetone for the possibility of cavitation bubble contents supercompression during its collapse.
