Chronic transdental dislocations of the atlas are among the most severe spinal injuries. In this area, the vertebral arteries, spinal cord, cranial nerves are in close contact. According to the literature [3], severe neurological symptoms develop in 25% of cases with fractures of the C2 odontoid process.

Radiographs of the cervical spine of patient G. a — on admission: fracture of the C2 odontoid process with displacement of the fragments over the entire diameter; b — the cervical region is fixed in a halo apparatus, an additional wire is passed through the C2 spinous process, complete reposition is achieved; c — after 3 months: complete consolidation of the fracture was achieved; (d) X-ray taken through the mouth: a massive callus is clearly visible.
