Resumo

Axially loaded slender piles may buckle when they are embedded in soil with relatively low lateral resistance and founded on a relatively stiff stratum. The present study develops an analytical solution to predict the critical buckling load of slender piles considering the prevention and promotion effect of the surrounding soil. The solution adopting active and passive side soil pressures is based on Hooke's law. A series of parametric studies is carried out to investigate and quantify the soil promotion effect and the effects of the soil deformation modulus, pile slenderness, and pile lateral influence ratio on the critical buckling load.
