Resumo

The welded joints of VT20 and OT4-1 titanium alloys formed by an innovative method (alternate-pulsed supply of argon and helium) are shown to have smaller grains and a wider melting zone in comparison with traditional argon-arc welding due to a more effective mechanical and thermal action of an arc in the weldpool. In addition, the innovative joints have a higher plasticity, a smaller scatter of the hardnesses over the cross section, and a higher welding speed.
