Dragonets (Callionymidae) of soft bottoms from the coastal zone of southern Central Vietnam
摘要
A review of dragonets (Gallionymidae) from the coastal waters of Khanh Hoa (Nha Trang and Van Phong bays) and Binh Thuan (Phu Quy Island) provinces, Vietnam, was conducted based on the samples of the author. In total, nine species were recorded, including three species indicated in the fauna of the country for the first time. In addition, geographic and bathymetric distribution of C. altipinnis, as well as morphological variation of several other species, was specified.



Pond smelt Hypomesus olidus, a new species of the ichthyofauna of the Commander Islands
摘要
The population of pond smelt Hypomesus olidus has been registered for the first time in the water bodies of Bering Island (Commander Islands). The spawning of this species has been observed in the Sarannoe Lake system, and the maturing breeders have been caught in the freshwater-brackish Gavanskoe Lake system. The spawning grounds, the spawning period, the environment, and the morphology of the breeders have been described. The ratio of Ca and Sr isotopes in the otoliths of the pond smelt inhabiting the Sarannoe Lake system evidenced that this species here was presented by the resident ecotype. The problem of the smelt phylogeny and resettlement in the northern Pacific Ocean is discussed.



Features of the reproductive cycle in females of the beaked redfish Sebastes mentella (Sebastidae)
摘要
The reproductive status of some categories of females of the beaked redfish Sebastes mentella has been determined as a result of the histological analysis. The histological characteristic of gonads of large nonreproductive females of redfish is presented for the first time. Gonads of mature females that skip spawning are studied. The cytomorphological characteristic of ovaries after larvae extrusion is specified. A broadened maturity scale for gonads of females of S. mentella supplemented with stages that characterize fish that skip spawning and large nonreproductive females is proposed.



Samaretta perexilis, a new genus and new species of samarid flatfish (Pleuronectiformes: Samaridae) from the South Pacific
摘要
A new genus of righteye flounder, Samaretta gen. nov., is described from two specimens (one female and one juvenile) collected in deep waters (470–512 m) from submarine mountains of the southern eastern Pacific. The type species of the new genus, Samaretta perexilis, is characterized by unremarkable (i.e., not elongated) anterior dorsal fin rays, four pectoral fin rays, six parapophyses, reduced lateral line canals, a very slender body, large head and eyes, and minute scales. An updated key to the samarid genera is presented.



Osteology of the Southern Ocean daggertooth (Anotopterus vorax) and status of the Anotopterus genus in the Aulopiformes order
摘要
The skeletal structure of the Southern Ocean daggertooth (Anotopterus vorax) has been studied for the first time. It generally corresponds to the A. pharao skeleton, as it has been previously described. The discrepancies pertain to the authors’ other various data on both the details of the structures of branchial arches, maxillae, cranium, and axial skeleton and the traits of the Anotopterus genus, which have not been described earlier. They include the availability of a considerable number of bony ribs (epineurals and epicentrals) attached to the neurocranium bones (epiotic, intercalar, and exooccipital) and some elongated and discontinuous lateral keel bones located on both sides of the central keel bone. Cladistic analysis has been performed with the finding that the A. vorax is united with the A. pharao and the Polymerichthys fossil genus into one clade, which takes an intermediate status between the representatives of the Alepisauridae and Paralepididae families. The assumption has been made about the necessity for the restitution of the family status of Anotopteridae.



Morphological variability of pond smelt Hypomesus olidus (Osmeridae) from some water bodies of the Far East
摘要
Morphological variability of four characters in 13 samples of pond smelt Hypomesus olidus is investigated using three parameters: fluctuating asymmetry, geographic variability, and variability of characters. The differences in the level of fluctuating asymmetry in H. olidus from various water bodies of the Far East and, thus, in the stability of development depend on the differences in conditions of embryonic and early postembryonic development. Only one character of four (mean number of soft rays in pectoral fins) shows presence of geographic variability in smelt: the mean value of this character increase from north to south. Estimation of variability of characters demonstrates that the maximum fluctuations of the variation coefficient are characteristic of the number of infraorbital bones and the minimal fluctuations are characteristic of the number of soft rays in pectoral fins.



Application of geometric morphometrics for intraspecific variability analysis in mesopelagic fishes of Sternoptychidae and Myctophidae families
摘要
We present the results of application of geometric morphometrics for studies of variability in populations of the members of two families of South Atlantic mesopelagic fishes, Sternoptyx diaphana (Sternoptychidae) and Ceratoscopelus warmingii (Myctophidae), in which an almost complete genetic isolation was previously discovered within the borders of hydrographic regions. A system of landmark points is developed, describing both anatomical features and configuration of luminescent organs, photophores, which allows to consider not only the influence of external physical and ecological conditions but also the existence of population-specific signaling system as a potential cause of genetic isolation. Morphological similarities are demonstrated for S. diaphana throughout the whole studied portion of the distribution area, while certain differences affecting the head shape and position of individual photophores on the body are discovered between C. warmingii populations.



Holocentridae from Borodino submarine elevation (Philippine Sea)
摘要
The information on the Holocentrid fishes (Holocentridae) from the Borodino submarine elevation (Philippine Sea) is reported for the first time. The Sargocentron borodinoensis new species is described based on one specimen found at 100–190 m depth. The brief description of the S. ittodai, Neoniphon aurolineatus, Myripristis amaena, Ostichthys archiepiscopus, O. kaianus, and Pristilepis oligolepis species found from the elevation are presented. The S. ittodai, N. aurolineatus, and M. amaena species were captured at greater depths than was earlier known.



Ichthyofauna of fresh and brackish waters of Sakhalin Island: An annotated list with taxonomic comments: 3. Gadidae–cryptacanthodidae families

The third part of the work provides a continuation of the annotated list of fish species found in freshwater and coastal brackish waters of Sakhalin Island: 60 species belonging to 42 genera, 21 families (Gadidae, Lotidae, Scomberesocidae, Belonidae, Hemiramphidae, Hypoptychidae, Gasterosteidae, Syngnathidae, Sebastidae, Hexagrammidae, Cottidae, Hemitripteridae, Agonidae, Liparidae, Percichthyidae, Lateolabracidae, Carangidae, Mugilidae, Zoarcidae, Stichaeidae, Cryptacanthodidae) and six orders (Gadiformes, Beloniformes, Gasterosteiformes, Syngnathiformes, Scorpaeniformes, Perciformes).



Ecological subspecies and locally temporal populations of anadromous fish
摘要
Intraspecific organization and structure of anadromous fish populations (in terms of species of the Oncorhynchus, Salvelinus, and Tribolodon genuses) were investigated. It was shown that the ecological, genetic, and morpho-physiological differences in ecology-temporal (seasonal) races of these fish reached the rank of ecological subspecies. The expediency of more careful and detailed study of intraspecific organization, ecological and locally temporal differentiation of fish, and consideration of the results of these researches was shown in the development of a polymorphic species concept as well as optimization of fish industry—the sustainable organization of fishing, artificial fish breeding, and introduction of fish.



Biological features of the common fish species in Olyutorsky-Navarin region and the adjacent waters of the Bering Sea: 2. Families Macrouridae, Clupeidae, and Osmeridae
摘要
Biological features of the four common fish species, giant grenadier Albatrossia pectoralis (Macrouridae), Pacific herring Clupea pallasii (Clupeidae), Pacific rainbow smelt Osmerus mordax dentex, and Pacific capelin Mallotus villosus catervarius (Osmeridae), were studied under the 20-year dataset (1995−2015). These species inhabit the northwestern Bering Sea in the summer–autumn period and form the schoolings in the Olyutorsky-Navarin region. The size–age parameters of the fish caught by different sampling gear, as well as the peculiarities of the body length and body weight dynamics, spawning periods, spawning range, and conditions, were analyzed. The largest specimens of giant grenadier, Pacific herring, and Pacific rainbow smelt were observed in the catches performed by the bottom setline and the gill nets; the smallest fish were found in the trawl catches. The body length and body weight of Pacific herring were larger in the pelagic trawls compared to the bottom trawls; an opposite pattern was observed for the Pacific capelin. The abundant year-class in the species with short life cycle (capelin and herring) is well tracked on the longterm plots of the fish body size; this is accompanied by the decrease of their biological parameters. Herring stock covers large growing grounds; smaller body size was observed for the herring grazing in the coastal waters; young specimens dominate here.



Methods of age determination of band-finned flounder Liopsetta pinnifasciata (Pleuronectidae)
摘要
Techniques involving chemical treatment are suggested for discrimination of annual and seasonal rings in the otoliths of band-finned flounder Liopsetta pinnifasciata. In the first annual zone, three seasonal rings are discerned, and four seasonal rings are discerned in subsequent zones. It is supposed that these rings correspond to biological seasons. The annual rings on otoliths and scales are formed synchronously: the first ring in December–March, and the subsequent ones in December–February. The time of formation of the first annual zone is less than a year; accordingly, the age of Liopsetta pinnifasciata determined by registering structures is less than its calendar age. According to calculations, metamorphosis of Liopsetta pinnifasciata ends at the length approximately 20 mm.



Development of the olfactory organ in the ontogeny of carps (Cyprinidae)
摘要
Morphogenesis of the olfactory organ is followed with a light microscopy method in silver carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, common carp Cyprinus carpio, Eurasian minnow Phoxinus phoxinus, shemaya Alburnus chalcoides, zebra danio Danio rerio, and bitterling Rhodeus sericeus amarus. In these fishes with different reproductive ecology, the olfactory organ develops in a similar way, and it is characterized by a similar structure in the representatives of different species of the same body length. Morphological features revealed in different species are not numerous, and they are not associated with the development of main structures of the olfactory organ. However, the interspecific differences can be connected with different developmental rates of these structures. Based on developmental rate of the olfactory organ, the studied species are divided into three groups with (1) accelerated development (the litophils, Eurasian minnow and shemaya); (2) moderate development (a pelagophil, silver carp, and the phitophils, common carp and zebra danio; and (3) retarded development (an ostracophil, bitterling). The differences in the degree of development of the olfactory organ in the species from various ecological groups are particularly evident to the beginning of the juvenile period. The appearance of all main structures of the olfactory organ is completed in the litophils at the onset of the second juvenile step (XVII); that in the pelagophils and phitophils is by the end of this step, that in ostracophils is substantially later (young of the current year), and that in zebra danio is to the beginning of sexual maturation. In the studied species, olfactory organ becomes differentiated/formed at different age and at various morphological states of the progeny, but at similar body size (29–30 mm). Thus, the body length of carps can be regarded as an indicator of a level of morphological development of the olfactory organ.



Effect of Bacillus subtilis in feed probiotic on the digestion of fish cultured in cages
摘要
We studied the activity of the digestive enzymes, qualitative composition, and bacteria genera ratio in the intestinal chyme of carp Cyprinus carpio and sterlet Acipenser ruthenus grown on an artificial diet in cage culture. It was shown that the inclusion of live bacteria Bacillus subtilis in the probiotic ProStor had a positive impact on the size and the structure of the microbial community in intestinal chyme, on the activity of some digestive enzymes, and on the digestibility and the weight gain of carp and sterlet. The total amount of micro-organisms in the carp chyme was by 13% higher and in sterlet it was 3.5 times higher in the experimental groups compared to the control. In the studied species of fish, the increase in the activity of digestive enzymes was accompanied by the decrease in nitrogen, ammonia, and urea. Presumably, it happened because of better absorption of protein and more intensive use of nitrogen metabolites by intestinal microflora for the synthesis of their own biomass. The average daily weight gain of carp and sterlet was 25 and 35% higher, respectively, in the experimental groups than in the control.

Distribution of the enzyme activity in the intestine of beluga Huso huso and Russian sturgeon Acipenser gueldenstaedtii (Acipenseridae)
摘要
Data on distribution of digestive enzymes along the intestinal tract of mature specimens of the beluga Huso huso and Russian sturgeon Acipenser gueldenstaedtii are presented. The absence of a distinct proximo-distal gradient of the enzyme activity can be explained by short length of the intestine of sturgeons. Considerable differences are found in the distribution pattern of enzymes along the intestinal tract of beluga and Russian sturgeon. The effect of the method of calculation of the enzyme activity on the data on the proximo- distal gradient is considered.



New genus of Ptereleotrinae (Gobioidei) from the South China Sea
摘要
A new genus and species Zagadkogobius ourlazon gen. et sp. nov. characterized by an unusual (for the subfamily Ptereleotrinae) combination of characters is described. A single specimen was collected at a depth of 73 m in the southwestern South China Sea to the south of the Anambas Islands. Based on the combination of characters, the new genus is most similar to the genus Nemateleotris. However, the species of the latter genus are associated exclusively with coral reefs. A key to the genera of the subfamily Ptereleotrinae is presented.



First record of nakedband gaper Champsodon nudivittis (Osteichthyes: Champsodontidae) off the Syrian Coast (Eastern Mediterranean)
摘要
This paper reports the first record of nakedband gaper Champsodon nudivittis from the Syrian coast. This record confirms the occurrence of the species in the Levant Basin and its eastern extension range in he Mediterranean Sea. Additionally, this additional capture of C. nudivittis in the eastern Mediterranean supports that a sustainable population is at present probably established in the same Mediterranean region.
