Abstract

Descriptions and images of reference associations (for formations) of the Silurian and Early Devonian ostracods from the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago are provided for the first time. They include 105 ostracod taxa, including two new genera and 33 new species and substantially supplement the faunal characteristics of the Silurian and Early Devonian local stratigraphic units of the region. The Silurian and Early Devonian deposits of the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago are correlated with the beds of adjacent regions of northern Eurasia; a number of reference levels for comparison of the Severnaya Zemlya stratigraphic scheme with the General Stratigraphic Scale are revealed. The material reported in the paper provides a detailed local stratigraphic scheme that increases the efficiency of prospecting and predictive works on hydrocarbons and solid minerals on the islands and shelf of the Kara Sea. The data provided are of interest for survey geologists, stratigraphers, experts in the Paleozoic beds.
