Abstract
The photochemical behavior of boron difluoride 3-amino-1-phenyl-2-buten-1-one (I) and 3-methylamino-1-phenyl-2-buten-1-one (II) in polyethylene (PE) is comparatively studied. It is found that the photochemical behavior strongly depends on the crystal structure of complexes. UV irradiation of complex I in PE leads to luminescence quenching due to photodimerization. In samples kept in the dark, photodimers dissociate, which leads to an increase in the luminescence intensity of compound I compared to initial nonirradiated samples. In contrast to compound I, photolysis of II in PE revealed no noticeable changes in the luminescence intensity.
