Abstract
Experimental studies have been performed to investigate flashing in a superheated water jet discharged from a short cylindrical nozzle in the presence of a passive swirler (twisted tape). The evolution of the jet atomization of flashing liquid with increasing superheat has been analyzed. Characteristic flow structures and shapes have been identified. The correlation between the jet shape and flashing modes has been found. Significant fluctuations and instability of the jet at certain temperatures have been observed. Experiments have shown the possibility of influencing the jet shape.
