Relationship between the deformability and fractographic characteristics of fracture surfaces of epoxy polymers

摘要

The deformation properties of epoxy polymers during natural aging in a tepid climate were studied by performing quantitative fractography and investigating the relief of fracture surfaces of epoxy polymers by mechanical tensile testing. The brightness in fracture micrographs correlated with the elongation at fracture.

Deflagration-to-detonation transition in crossed-flow fast jets of propellant components

摘要

It was experimentally proven for the first time that the turbulence produced by crossed-flow supersonic jets of a fuel (natural gas) and an oxidizer (oxygen), which are injected at a pressure of 25 to 150 atm into a smooth detonation tube 74 mm in diameter, causes a fast deflagration-to-detonation transition at distances as short as 300 mm (up to 4 tube diameters) in times of tenths of a millisecond (∼0.4 ms). The obtained results can be used for designing compact predetonators for detonation combustors of promising energy-converting devices.

Unusual effect of carborane ligands on the electronic properties of d0-metal complexes

摘要

Modern quantum-chemical and photophysical methods have been used to study the structure of the frontier molecular orbitals and the nature of ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) transitions of structurally complex d0-metallocenes. It has been shown that such metal complexes with carboranyl ligands have emissive LMCT states with preferential charge transfer from aromatic π-ligands to the metal and a large electric dipole moment. The electronic excitation and absorption spectra were simulated for the first time, and dipole moments of metal complexes containing metal–carbon σ- and π-bonds were estimated, which is of fundamental importance for the development of molecular photonics.

Measurements of tension (P < 0) in a metastable aqueous 2m Na2WO4–CsCl solution

摘要

The negative pressure (tension) was measured by Raman spectroscopy in an aqueous 2m Na2WO4–CsCl solution during a metastable-to-stable state transition. Phase transitions were observed optically in synthetic fluid inclusions in a single quartz crystal. In the metastable liquid phase, the vapor phase nucleation pressure at 48°C is −105 ± 5 MPa. Water equation of state (IAPWS-95) predicts the nucleation pressure for this density to be approximately −160 MPa.

Production of nanosized silicon carbide powders by adiabatic compression

摘要

A method has been suggested for the production of nanosized silicon carbide powders by adiabatic compression of a monosilane–acetylene gas mixture in argon. The method is distinguished by a nearly monodispersed particle size distribution (the polydispersity index in no higher than 0.1), high purity, and quantitative yield.
