Abstract
Questions related to the calculation of radial forces in the channel of the groove seal of a rotor for a rotating and for a nonrotating shaft where the pressure drop at the inlet to the grooved channel is asymmetric in the circumferential direction are considered. A method of estimating the magnitude of the radial force in a groove seal suitable for practical calculations is proposed.
