Some Aspects of Teaching Medical Documents Translation in the Era of Digitalization
Abstract
The article examines current methods for translating medical texts in the era of digital technology. Three approaches are compared: the use of automatic online translators, the application of neural network language models, and translation performed by a professional medical translator. The analysis is based on practical examples that reveal not only the advantages, but also the disadvantages of each method, such as literal translation, distortion of context, and terminological inaccuracies. The results of the study demonstrate that neural network language models can be successfully integrated into the process of teaching written translation and can even enhance students' motivation. Methodologically, working with neural networks is an effective means of pre- and post-translation analysis, which helps maintain the semantic integrity of the text. The role of AI as a supportive tool in teaching written translation of medical documents to future medical translators is emphasized. The task is to identify the cognitive style of each member of the student audience in motivational academic essays with minimal restrictions in logical blocks. In this case, the topic was ‘My favorite book’. The students made very few mistakes in coordinating three types of knowledge: encyclopedic, linguistic, and interactional. It was the last type that demonstrated a wide range of individual reflection. Within the parameter ‘field dependence/field independence’, the majority of the essays demonstrate a clear tendency towards a field-independent cognitive style. Students' awareness of the individual nature of their own cognitive style will contribute to the development of their creative writing skills.
