Abstract
The influence of the physicochemical characteristics of the tempering medium on the structure of nickel samples is studied. The micromechanisms of plastic hardening and fracture of the surface layer under friction are established. The temporal changes in strength characteristics of the metal surface layer at the initial stages of friction load are determined. These strength characteristics have a cyclic character. The duration of the cycle of strength characteristics strongly depends on the tempering medium.
