Abstract

The treatment of chronic constipation is a challenging problem in pediatric gastroenterology since 15 to 35% of the children suffer from this condition. We have examined 139 children presenting with chronic constipation at the age from 6 to 18 years. The patients were divided into 5 groups depending on the method of treatment, viz. basal therapy and physiotherapy, basal therapy and acupuncture reflexotherapy, basal therapy in combination with acupuncture reflexotherapy and physiotherapy, or acupuncture reflexotherapy alone. The results of the study give evidence of the high effectiveness of combined treatment of chronic constipation in the children with the use of acupuncture reflexotherapy.
