Resumo

The VPP-2 vibratory driver and the Russian method based on it for compacting foundations using a vibratory compactor of longitudinal vibration with a spatial compactor in a “vibro-herringbone” form have been widely used around the world for driving (extraction of) a piling and vibration compaction of sandy foundation soil, both water-saturated or slightly damp and combinations thereof. The article presents the results of a theoretical substantiation of the developed calculation model and field tests of a method of deep vibration compaction of foundations, showing its shortcomings. These shortcomings were most clearly manifested during compaction of heavy thickness of the sandy foundations (9 m and greater). It is shown that the shortcomings of the known vibratory compactor can be eliminated or significantly decreased by using a vibratory compactor with radial elements placed at a specified height in the lower part of the compactor probe. This makes it possible to improve the technical characteristics of the vibratory compactor operating with a reliable and economic vibratory driver. The main results of these researches were reported at the 15th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, “New innovations and sustainability” (15ARC) in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan, on November 9 – 13, 2015.
