Synthesis of 1-Butyl-3,6-diazahomoadamantane

1-Butyl-3,6-diazahomoadamantan-9-one was synthesized by condensation of heptan-2-one with diethylenetetramethylenetetramine (1,3,6,8-tetraazatricyclo[4.4.1.1^3,8]dodecane). Reactions of the title compound at the carbonyl group afforded 1-butyl-3,6-diazahomoadamantane and derivatives containing functional groups on the C⁹ bridging atom. Introduction of pharmacophoric groups into the 9-position of 1-butyl-3,6-diazahomoadamantane seems to be the most promising method for its modification with a view to obtaining derivatives with new biological properties.
