Abstract

Discrete media representing waveguide arrays are discussed. The waveguides are manufactured from materials with different signs of the refractive indices. Interaction between forward and backward waves is possible in such discrete media. Examples of discrete photonic media of this kind are considered. Gap quasi-solitons and the stability of homogeneous intensity distributions over waveguides are discussed.
