Abstract
A method is considered and an algorithm is described for detecting the lasing regime of a fundamental- mode laser diode, based on field measurements of the angle of divergence of the radiation in the far field. A function that explicitly describes the radiation pattern without measuring its intensity distribution in the near field is presented.
