Performance comparison of space-time block and trellis codes in the MIMO land mobile satellite channels

Jing Q., Wu J.

Аннотация

Due to the crowded orbits and shortage of frequency resources, the use of MIMO technology to improve spectrum efficiency and an increase of the capacity have become a necessary trend of broadband satellite communication. Firstly, we analyze the main influenced factors and compare the bit error rate (BER) performance of space-time block code (STBC) scheme and space-time trellis code (STTC) scheme. Then we build up the model of land mobile satellite (LMS) channel under different environments by using 3-state Markov chain. This paper emphatically studies the BER performance of STTC and STBC in the MIMO satellite channel. The main emphasis is placed on the effects of different factors, such as terminal environment and elevation angles, on the BER performance of STBC and STTC schemes. Simulation results indicate that performance of STTC in Rayleigh channel is obviously improved with the increasing number of transmitting and receiving antennas, but the encoder state has little impact on the performance. In the Rayleigh channel, the performance of Alamouti code is better than that of STTC. In the LMS channel, performance of these two kinds of space-time coding in open area is optimal, and in the urban area it is the worst. Nevertheless, performance of STTC is slightly superior to the performance of STBC under different circumstances. Under the same environmental conditions, BER of STBC and STTC reduces with the increase of the satellite altitude angle, and therefore, the BER curves of STTC fall faster.

Performance of massive MIMO uplink system over Nakagami-m fading channel

AL-Rawi M., AL-Rawi M.

Аннотация

This paper studies the performance of massive MIMO uplink system over Nakagami-m fading channel. The performance is measured in terms of spectral efficiency versus the number of base station antennas with different values of the parameter m using two schemes of linear detection; maximum ratio combining (MRC) and zero forcing receiver (ZF). The simulation results show that as m increases, the spectral efficiency increases slowly, but it increases significantly with the rise of the number of base station antennas. It should be also noted that the spectral efficiency with ZF is better than that with MRC.

Structural adaptation of the turbo code coder and decoder for generating the transmission repeat request under conditions of uncertainty

Zaitsev S., Kazymyr V.

Аннотация

The paper deals with the issue of enhancing the performance efficiency of wireless networks built by using the with automatic repeat request scheme for retransmission. The proposed method is based on adaptive change of polynomials of recursive systematic convolutional codes forming a part of turbo codes and aimed at enhancing their correcting properties at the expense of increasing the code limitation at each data block retransmission for the set coding rate. In this case, the decoding algorithm of turbo codes is modified in respect of using the introduced additional a priori information during the calculation of logarithmic ratios of likelihood functions or log-likelihood ratios (LLR) for each component decoder obtained during the earlier repeat requests for retransmission. The results of simulation modeling showed that the application of this technique made it possible to obtain the energy gain in coding and enhance the data transmission accuracy as compared to the fourth generation mobile communication system, such as 4G LTE-Advanced.

Componentwise coherence function of correlated periodically nonstationary random processes

Yavorskyj I., Yuzefovych R., Matsko I., Zakrzewski Z.

Аннотация

In this paper we consider a novel componentwise coherence function, which is determined by the cross-spectral densities of stationary components of periodically nonstationary random processes i.e. stationary correlated random processes, which modulate their carrier harmonics. The properties of the introduced coherence function are specified for the amplitude- and phase-modulated signals. Its graphical frequency dependencies have been obtained for the specified signal parameters. The advantages of componentwise coherence function in comparison with previously suggested integral coherence function are shown. We present the method for the selection of stationary modulating components, which is based on the frequency shift and low-pass filtration. The properties of selected components for the cases of amplitude- and phase-modulated processes are analyzed.

Optimization of the printed circuit boards placement at thermal design of the units with natural air cooling

Shilo G., Areshkin E., Gaponenko N.

Аннотация

It is considered an influence of printed circuit boards placement on temperature distribution in electronic equipment units with natural air cooling. Modeling of the temperature distribution in the unit and research of mass-dimension characteristics were carried out by means of CADs and engineering analysis. There are developed simplified geometric and thermal models of the unit. Here we analyze specificities of heat exchange in the units of radio electronic equipment with natural air cooling. It is developed an algorithm for optimization of printed circuit boards placement in radio electronic equipment with natural air cooling taking into account non-uniform power distribution between printed circuit boards. Proposed algorithm can be used as one of the stage of optimization of size, carrying or mass-dimension factors of the unit in case where unit powers are distributed non-uniformly.
