Abstract

New data were obtained on the effect of small additions of nanoparticles on the mechanical properties of a metal matrix produced by cold pressing of powders with subsequent sintering in a forevacuum. The matrix was a sintered aluminum powder or aluminum–1.5 vol % copper powder mixture. The strengthener was alumina nanoparticles at concentrations of 0.01–0.15 vol %. It was shown that the strength characteristics of these materials as determined by tensile, compressive, and flexural testing and by the offset yield strength method are significantly higher.
