New Proton-Conducting Polydiimidazopyridine-Based Membrane for an HT-PEM Fuel Cell

Abstract

Polydiimidazopyridine was synthesized from 2,3,5,6-tetraaminopyridine and 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid in polyphosphoric acid (PPA) and characterized. Polydiimidazopyridine possessed high viscosity, high thermooxidative stability, and excellent film-forming properties. The polymer was processed from a reaction solution in PPA to proton-conducting membranes featuring high proton conductivity in the temperature range of 20–200°C, being superior in this value to many known membranes.
