Abstract
Waste-generation schemes for β-lactam cephalosporin production were compared. It was shown that effluents from chemical transformation and purification steps are the most ecologically polluted and hazardous. Therefore, the issue of reduced environmental impact must be resolved first for these process steps. In general, the technogenic load from cephalothin sodium salt production was greater than that from cephalexin monohydrate production.
